    help! changin the speedometer!

i have recently purchased a KDX 06 and it was set up for super moto, with 17'' weels on the front and back! i have changed all this to a 21'' in the front, but the speedometer and the milages are still reading based on a 17'' weel!

can someone tell me how to chage this. might i add this is digital speedometer.

Who makes the speedo ? It's not a factory unit. Digital speedometers will be adjustable with a set of dip switches or rotary dials. When the unit is purchased new it will come with a calibration chart or graph. The manufacture would be your best bet. If you put the name and info you have on the unit out here someone else might have one. Good luck. Let us know what the top speed is when you get it right. I have been curious about that.

it is a factory unit. this bike was street legal and i strip everithing on it and change from hadle bars, to footpegs, tires and rims, pipe. but i cant get a hold on the speedo. im writting from nicaragua so here is not that easy to get a hold on of the manufacture. i would really apreciate the help becouse im running in our enduro championship here and its kind of hard not nowing how fast ure going or how far you have gone.

OOPS. Sorry to have jumped the gun on that one. Does it still use a speedo cable of off the front wheel ?

    Re: help! changin the speedometer!

yes the cable goes to the fron wheel. becouse it had smaller wheels i guess it was set up to the turn of the wheels to be faster and so when i changed the wheels to a 21' the sensor dosnt go around as much.

    Re: help! changin the speedometer!

If it was mine I would remove the front wheel and the hub that drives the speedo. Disassemble the speedo hub and count the teeth on the two speedometer gears. The tooth count may have been changed by the former owner. The U.S. version uses a 25t gear and an 8t gear. Yours may be different because the bike is probably set up for KMPH versus MPH. I would try the parts diagrams from a country that the bike was sold to be street legal in.Maybe Australlia. I am going to be away from the computer for the next 2 days. If you dont have any luck by then I will see if I can find that info for you.

Most of the electronic speedos have a calibrate mode where you find an exact mile, like mile markers on the highway and then you hit start, ride one mile, then end and it automatically resets it for your wheel size.
